Bosque Farms Elementary to pack up?
March 19, 2009
Will the entire student body of Bosque Farms Elementary School move to a temporary site for two years?
That was the question brought up at the Los Lunas Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night.
According to Superintendent Walter Gibson, a contractor readying to construct an addition to Bosque Farms Elementary has said it might need the entire school grounds for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years to complete the addition.
Gibson says that means the the Bosque Farms student body might move to either Katherine Gallegos Elementary School, which has portables available for the students, or to Daniel Fernandez Intermediate School after spending $300,000 to move the portables from Katherine Gallegos Elementary to Daniel Fernandez Intermediate.
Any move is problematic. Katherine Gallegos Elementary, located on the westside of the Rio Grande, is far from Bosque Farms and would strain parents who drive their kids to and from school. Daniel Fernandez Intermediate already has the Family School and the 65-student Century High School on its grounds.
