County tracks hundreds of code violations

April 17, 2009

A list tracking hundreds of code violations by Meadow Lake residents indicates the county is focusing its efforts there on removing inoperable vehicles from yards and having residents clean up their properties.

The 14-page document called “Violation Tracking” shows a wide-range of violations and includes dates when notices were delivered to residents asking them to come into compliance with the law.

The oldest continuing violation on record is an inoperable vehicle violation, which was first recorded as a violation in 2007, exactly two years ago last Monday. The document says it’s been over 700 days since the first notice was sent to that resident, who received three notices in 2007.

One violation says a resident must remove a second mobile home on the property. Another says a resident must “return land use to residential,” in most cases meaning the resident is operating a business on land that hasn’t been zoned for commericial uses.

The list includes violations through March 2009. It’s accompanied by a second document called “Resolved Cases” showing about 40 properties that have been successfully brought back into compliance in the first three months of 2009.

Valencia! recently obtained the list of code violations from the Meadow Lake Residents Association. The county says there are four lists tracking violations in each of four code enforcement areas. The lists are publicly available if requested.

If you suspect one of your neighbors is in violation of one or more codes, you can call the county at 866-2053 to report it.
