“I set everything down. I put everything down. I’m not fishing right now.”

– Don Holliday, Valencia County commissioner, speaking from a comfortable perch by a lake while on vacation. Holliday decided to participate in yesterday’s commission meeting by speakerphone, which had Commission Chairman Pedro Rael quipping, “If you catch something, let us know while we’re in this meeting.”

During the meeting, what seemed to be the sounds of birds, boat motors and a cool summer breeze reverberated loudly from the speakerphone, distracting Holliday’s fellow commissioners who were cooped up indoors with their constituents.
