A mid-morning fire destroyed a mobile home along Highway 116 in Pueblitos on Saturday, shutting down the major roadway for nearly an hour.

Firefighters from nearby fire stations arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes but were only able to put out the fire after it had fully consumed the home.

Neighbors and passersby stopped to watch, as did the homeowners and their family members, one of whom broke down into tears.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known, but fire officials have been busy putting out structure fires in recent weeks, saying that as temperatures drop fires rise because people are trying to heat their homes.
