Griego seeks to rein in campaign contributions
January 11, 2010
Sen. Eric Griego wants to ban campaign contributions from businesses, lobbyists and state contractors.
SB49, introduced by Griego during prefiling, would make it illegal for businesses, lobbyists and state contractors to give money to or solicit money for a candidate or political committee.
The law also makes it illegal for a candidate or political committee to accept money from businesses, lobbyists or state contractors and state contractors’ principals.
While the bill would make contributions to candidates and political committees illegal, the same bill says businesses, lobbyists and state contractors can put money toward the success and defeat of ballot measures.
