Los Lunas moves forward with field house
January 12, 2010
The Los Lunas Schools Board of Education voted during a special meeting last week to move forward with the design of a field house at the Valencia High School football field.
The project had been held up in December after Board Member Christopher Martinez questioned whether the district should try to get more bang for its buck by altering the field house plans.
Martinez sought to explore constructing a metal field house, instead of standard brick and mortar, then using the saving to build an auxiliary gym or other things.
The board voted Thursday to move forward with the design of the project, the full scope of which is yet to be determined.
The district is also putting together a committee of district employees, parents and students who will assess the project and design to ensure the high school is getting what it needs.
The committee will look at things like the layout of locker rooms, how many concession stands to have, what would be needed to improve the high school’s weight room, what amount of storage space is needed and whether or not an auxiliary gym is feasible.
The board will approve the committee at tonight’s board meeting.
