Sanchez proposes school board election change
January 26, 2010
Sen. Michael Sanchez wants school districts to have the option of holding their elections at the same time as other elections, which could include November general elections.
Sanchez has introduced a joint resolution — SJR8 — during the special session that attempts to strip the state constitution of language that forces school districts to hold their elections apart from other elections.
The state constitution reads:
All school elections shall be held at different times from other elections.
If the joint resolution is passed, the issue would go to a public vote during the next general election, or could be put to a vote during a special election.
