Sanchez seeks expanded use of web cameras
January 26, 2010
Sen. Michael Sanchez is seeking to expand the use of web cameras to broadcast Senate proceedings.
Under existing Senate rules, only one web camera is permitted in the Senate chamber, and it’s only permitted to show a wide view similar to what a member of the public would see if he or she were sitting in the public gallery above the Senate floor.
Should the Senate adopt Sanchez’s amendments in SR1, the live video streamed from the Senate would be expanded to multiple cameras and views.
The rules currently protect the privacy of lawmakers’ paperwork and computer screens from being seen on the single web camera in the Senate chamber. That protection would remain in place under Sanchez’s proposal.
