County unemployment rises again

The unemployment rate in Valencia County rose to 10.5 percent in March, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Unemployment was up two-tenths from February.

The numbers don’t yet reflect layoffs by both the City of Belen and Los Lunas Schools, where 43 employees in the two governments lost their jobs because of deficits.

While job loses continue, at least one company is bringing jobs to Valencia County. Sud-Chemie, located in the Rio Grande Industrial Park, is expanding its local operations and adding 10 jobs.
