The county commission approved the 1,700 acre mining operation requested by Sun Ranch Development in a 5-0 vote Wednesday night, changing the zoning of the area to be mined from Outland District to Mineral Resource.

Commission Chairman Pedro Rael suggested his vote in favor of approval was due to there being no public opposition to the zone change.
