Verizon Wireless will not be allowed to place a new cell phone tower at the Tome-Adelino Fire Department, after a unanimous vote against it by the county commission Wednesday night.

“It would be creating a hazard,” Commissioner Ron Gentry said, noting the county intends to put a helipad on the property.

Commissioner Pedro Rael suggested the tower might be reconsidered if Verizon Wireless can find a better location for it.
