Friends of Gary Gabaldon place a memorial stone at the murder site.

Four friends of Gary Gabaldon, the man allegedly killed by Luke Sanchez, placed a memorial stone at the site of the July 4 murder today.

Erminia Montanez, who was Gabaldon’s girlfriend, Rosemary Moore, who said Gabaldon was like a son, and Alexis Montanez and Shani Martinez, placed the handcrafted memorial stone at the corner of Gabaldon Road and the frontage along Highway 314 in Belen.

“It’s so tragic,” said Moore with tears welling up in her eyes.

The memorial stone, inscribed with Gabaldon’s name, the date he was killed and symbols of peace and love, quotes from one of his favorite songs called “People Are Crazy” by Bill Currington, with the lyric, “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.”

The stone was etched and painted by Gary Moore.
