Two United States senators say they’ve secured nearly $870,000 to improve the Manzano Expressway, focusing on making access to Valencia High School safer.

According to Sen. Jeff Bingaman’s office, he and Sen. Tom Udall have secured the money in a spending bill that’s on the president’s desk.

United States Rep. Martin Heinrich has also been working to improve the Manzano Expressway, talking about the issue when he was in Rio Communities in August.

Bingaman and Udall said they’ve also secured $145,000 for Valencia County’s Department of Information Technology.

Separately, the Pueblo of Isleta will be receiving $112,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for energy audits and building retrofitting for energy efficiency.
